Hades vs Pluto
Hades vs Pluto
The Greek gods and goddesses have many similarities and most have basically the same powers, but there are some differences. For example, Hades and Pluto. Both of them are gods of the dead and lords of the underworld, but Hades is much more formidable. Images of Hades portray him as a strong adversary, while Pluto es portrayed as more of a throne ruler, the difference being that while Hades in many myths is willing to fight against those who wrong him or his rules, Pluto is more willing to sit down and send his guards to do it for him. Hades is portrayed as strong and independent, while Pluto is much more of a dependent and even weak person, especially as an adversary.
Hades is a strong and independent figure who will not back away from a fight, the name Hades comes from the Greek word haides which derived from the root word aides meaning ‘unseen’. As the lord of the underworld, this seems fitting, and it also matches the temperament that is seen in many myths and legends about him. Hades was the son of the Titans Cronus and Rhea and has two brothers and three sisters; Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Hera, and Hestia. His wife, Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and was kidnapped by Hades. After the kidnapping, Hades let Persephone go where she pleased in the underworld and eventually, she was captivated by a pomegranate in Hades’ castle grounds. After this, she was bound to the underworld and eventually fell in love with Hades, marrying him. Hades also has a dog named Cerberus which in Greek means ‘spot’.
Pluto
Pluto is the Roman god of the underworld and unlike Hades, prefers to spend his time amidst gold and jewels, making the name Pluto or ‘the wealthy one’ in Greek, perfect for him. He features in a lot of the same myths Hades does, though he also is accredited the power to summon jewels or gold. There are not many myths about this power and in general, like Hades, the biggest myth involving Pluto is the myth of his kidnapping of Proserpina, the Roman version of the kidnapping of Persephone tale.
