Mars VS Ares
Mars VS Ares
Mars and Ares were two very similar Gods known for being the God of war but were also different in their personality. Mars is the Roman God of war, the 2nd most important Roman God, and the founder of Rome with his sons Romulus and Remus, while Ares is the Greek God of war with no other special titles. Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera, and Mars is the son of Jupiter and Juno, the Roman equivalent. Ares siblings are Athena, Dionysus, Apollo, Artemis, and Hephaestus. These are the similarities between the 2 Gods. These differences, however, in their personality is much different. Ares, being the God of war, loved blood and battle, but he was disliked by other Greeks because he gave no mercy and wanted a lot of war and fighting. This is the reason why he was locked up in a brass cauldron by the Aloadai giants because he was too ruthless, and it was thought that Ares would take violent action against the other Gods. Mars also was the God of war, but he gave mercy to the people who needed it like noblemen, and he wasn't all about fighting, blood, and war. This made Mars a more favourited God. Mars has a connection with 2 animals, the woodpecker, and the wolf, on the other hand, Ares has a connection with the vulture, but this has no symbolism in their characteristics. Ares is not often noted in mythological stories, but when he is, he is humiliated, either because of his cowardness, or Aphrodite's love for him, even though she was married to Hephaestus. Mars is also a more famous person and has the month March and the planet Mars named after him. March was named after him because he was supposedly born in March, while Mars was named after him because he is the God of war, symbolised with blood, which is the colour of Mars. Therefore, Mars and Ares were the equivalent of each other between the Roman Gods and the Greek Gods, but Mars' personality was better than Ares because Ares was more about blood and war.
Quite detailed about the similarities and differences. You do a great job comparing Mars & Ares and showing who wins in different aspects, though could use a bit more organisation as it is a big chunk of text. Other than that, pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It was a little difficult to read due to the lack of paragraphs.
DeleteI really enjoyed this post as it really showed the different characteristics of the two gods who, although they are both god of war, have different ways of tackling situations and have a different status in there own pantheon. It was also good how you talked about their symbols; especially their animals.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I learnt a lot from this post and I it kept my interest the whole way through, despite the fact that it was a little hard to read with just a big chunk of text.
Good Job
ReplyDeleteGood information but could be structured better.
